St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic School at Charleston existed 1871-1880
ST PATRICK’S RC CHURCH Charleston.
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AT CHARLESTON WAS BUILT TWICE. The tenders for the erection of a Catholic Church at Charleston close on Friday next. The building will be shortly afterwards completed, as the Rev. Father Royer purposes settling in the district in the early part of May next. Charleston Argus, 24 April 1867, Page 2.
The opening of this building was not recorded in the newspapers.
The violent squalls of wind raging on Saturday night (9thMarch) blew down the Catholic Church at Charleston, making the structure a perfect wreck. Westport Times, 12 March 1878, page 2.
The gale on Saturday last appears to have shaken up the dry bones of a good many buildings at Charleston. In addition to the complete wreck of the Catholic Church, the United Methodist Free Church was shifted a few inches off its foundation, some unoccupied buildings in Camp street were shattered, and sheets of iron, shutters, and stray boards were for some time scattered by the wind in all directions. At Messrs Gregory and Horner’s claim at Darkie’s Creek three chains of fluming were blown down. .... ...

Specifications to be seen at ROCHE’S HOTEL, Westport, or MELBOURNE HOTEL, Charleston.
Tenders tp close on MONDAY, 1st APRIL, at 8 p.m.
The lowest or any tender not necessaryily accepted.

Landmark Demolished.
The Roman Catholic Church at Charleston, which was erected in 1867, has recently been demolished. From being a once flourishing mining town the population has gradually left the town till it is now almost deserted.

NB – The history book - CHARLESTON: Its Rise and Decline, by Irwin Faris, has this church being demolished in 1925.
