DescriptionRichard John Seddon was a New Zealand politician who served as the 15th premier of New Zealand from 1893 until his death. In office for thirteen years, he is to date New Zealand's longest-serving head of government. Seddon was born near St Helens in England. Mr. Seddon moved to Hokitika from Australia in 1866. He settled in Kumara in 1876 where he became the first Mayor then in 1879 was elected to Parliament.ContributorTony Kokshoorn
