First I’ve heard of Northland Bay!!!! Looking at other early photos of the lake it appears that photographers may have liked to give places names to help identify where they were taken. Two photos taken in 1904 by Muir & Moodie reference Island Bay and Camp Bay for what is clearly Hans Bay - Camp Bay is where Dorothy Creek flows into the Lake. Another taken by the same people and time shows Dorothy Bay which doesn’t exist. I suspect these 2 photos above were also taken by them in 1904. I am certain that this was never an official, or even a local name, my dad never used it. However I am open to being proved wrong. Also, on mapspast NZMS 13 1919 it is not shown. Baz.

Heather Newby sometimes they are just local names or else just wrong. On the topo maps Rose Creek was shown going through our farm, whereas we always called them (there were 2) Tuhua and Dry Creeks. In 1999, long after my dad had died, the map changed to show this - Rose Creek was moved south to Slip Creek which disappeared. Locally the area when you first arrive at the Lake has always been called "The Landing" but not shown on maps yet, Baz.
