DescriptionAfter decades of gold mining enabling economic growth and employment throughout the West Coast the gold dredge tailings now produce a new economy from the old wastelands. The Kaniere gold dredge commenced operations in 1938 at Kaniere. It was rebuilt near Kumara to work the nearby Taramakau River in the late 1950s.
