DescriptionIn the early 1980's the Forest Service was planting significant areas of pakihi in radiata, following a promising trial in 1964. Here we see Bill Sawyers, Lindsay Moore, Danny Gilsenan, Mason Woolhouse, Robbie Ray (back to camera) and Dave Bishop discussing v-blading on a pakihi in the Reefton area.

Date Created6th October 2025CommentsPlanted on those bloody v blades was full of wasp nests we had to carry powder to squirt on the nests and run like hell . And if you had to jump off the bloody things to get to the next one you nearly went up to your waist in mud and had to be pulled out by someone else .
Lots of laughs mud and stings with a great bunch of ladies who planted most of the pakihi

Dave Bishop was reefton. DOC rep. Got sidelined because he supported us mining in perseverance ecological area that was placed over the area after the mine was working. DOC and new green movement were determined to kick us out. To her credit helen Clark visited site. And memorably said. It appears I have been mislead by my department. And issued a 20 year licence.
