It might be a bit of nostalgia, but I always liked that bit of road,with the Beech canopy, and the sun peeking through, with glimpses of the Waimak every now and the two fords. Found it a very relaxing. But over all, the scenery on the drive from Christchurch to Greymouth was always impressive, in all weather conditions. ?

It should read, Last bit of fun for drivers removed. The highway wasn't dangerous, it was the average driver's complete lack of driving ability that was and still is dangerous.
