Fred Jackson's wife and Mother-in-law both die as a result of that slip. One at the time, and the other died later as a result of her injuries.
Arthur Bass
Didn't her Mum also die later from injuries in the same house ?
Maggie Houston
Mrs Jackson lost her life in the house under the slip
Marcy Robertson
Gosh I remember that like it was yesterday. My Nana and 2 uncles were in that, lucky though they got choppered out to nelson and bought a house in Wakefield. Her house has gone now such a shame Bill Stuart. He just let it go to rack n ruin. Not happy.
Andrew John Wilson
My old bosses Dad had been ar that house playing cards and was walking home with his wife when the quake struck. Kevin Stuart
Kevin O'Regan
Like yesterday, and can. Still see it.
Bede Brown
Sadly a house was under that and the lady of the house was killed
I was a 17 year old trainee in the Post and Telegraph and we went up the gorge to assess the toll.lines on that day. the devestation in the area was unbelievable very eerie feeling with the continuing after shocks.
Pete Lusk
Bede Brown yes, must’ve been a scary time. Sorry to hear of the lady being killed.

I believe there is a home burried under that slip ?
Maureen Shaw
I remember there was a salesman who travelled to sell from his car, Parked for the night sleeping in his car in the area. He survived to tell the tale. I wonder if he’s still alive?

First person on the scene I believe was Pat Morgan. Couldn't do much to help there but borrowed a bicycle and rode onto wards westport. Meet some blokes from the ministry of works at the 4mile and they gave him a lift to town. I heard he carried the bike a fair way due to slips and road damage

Fred Jackson’s house , I remember him at Inangahua Junction. I remember my Mother saying she was sitting on the veranda the day before the earthquake struck. Yes his wife died when the cliff came down and her mother after the earthquake.
Helen Burns
