Treetops arbor over highways were Scenic Reserve. Lowland forest. No longer. Barrytown north for eg.

The packtrack to Karamea had a telegraph line. Im not sure when it was first connected….maybe 1890s?
In 1970s, when living in Karamea, I met 90 yr old Bert Baker who had the job of maintaining the line.

I guess that’s a telegraph pole at left. One insulator on top.

It's just a track really isn't it. The road was finally joined at Arawhata in 1944-45. I can remember it being opened but just not sure of the date!
