DescriptionI took this photo of the 2005 Greymouth tornado. It’s taken from Albert street just outside the library. Unfortunately it’s taken on one of the first Nokia camera phones so the detail is very low & and the tornado quite far off - heading toward the hills behind the town. Still, it was impressive to see - and the sound was insane, like a jet engine (I’m sure many of you will remember).Date of Photo1st December 2005Map^[1]ContributorJonathan White

So well the day I was having a breast screen at Grey Base and right breast scashed and the power went off thank god for generators a sit sore until it kicked in laugh about it now,not so good at the time

Remember it well. We lived on Doyle St then. I was preoccupied in the bathroom when I heard this horrific noise coming from behind the house. Kids came running in "mum mum come look!"
Out the kitchen window looking toward the river we could see corrugated iron flying over our garage and trees and the tornado getting closer. Tucked the kids into the bathtub and waited it out.
Was a scary few minutes.
It definitely made a mess through Blaketown and Greymouth.

OMG how can one ever forget that! I was in the Mall at Damien Oconnor’s office. The sound was like the large planes taking off for Antartica at Chch airport and the wind fierce! Sheets of iron, roof tiles and loads of rubbish flying through the air!!! It was so scarey. ??
