When my parents moved into 10 Ward St Runanga just after world war 2 it came with a huge chook shed the size of the actual house and clad entirely with straightened 44 gallon drum sides with all joints and roof sealed with tar plus a large chook run. The concrete floors of the 3 large rooms are still there and would be a massive job to get rid of. I helped to demolish it in the mid 1960s when my dad built a much smaller one on part of the foundations with some of the sheets. I suppose you could call it re recycling.

There is a hut I've visited near Glenorchy made of flattened metal drums & kerosene tins that is still standing. I took photos of it a few years back. Locals call it Jean Hut. There is another one in rural Marlborough that I've visited as well. Here on the Coast with a wetter climate and more bush than those two dry areas such huts don't last as well.

We came across an old shed here in Tassie also made of old tin cans and still standing. They don’t make them like that anymore.
