Using a jungle carbine by the looks of that the loudest bang that you could imagine and every thing else in the vacinity spooked to hell and gone!!!

Rob Lunn yep but the rifle of choice in the Coastal bush. It had a shorter barrel, hence the noise.
Back in the 70's, the ammo was cheap (Army surplus).

Rob Lunn the small rubber oval recoil pad wasn't much chop as they hardened over time and the smaller surface area and increase kick due to short barrel made them hard yakka . Most were modified No.4 rifles and only had two land barrels unlike the 5 in the long tom. Close quarters weapon for sure.

Read Brian Conroys book on Cliff Peart on how the wonderful era of the ground shooter slowly died especially with the arrival of the kerosine hunters. Truly a magnificent book. Unless you understand the era it would be like reading algebra to the modern hunters.
