DescriptionThe wrecked railcar, R.M. 21, as it came to rest after leaving the rails near Arahura while on the run from Hokitika to Greymouth on Monday of last week. Mr. William J. Jeffries (portrait inset) a well-known Hokitika businessman and member of the Westland County Council, was killed, and nine of the other passengers were injured.

Stone in the flangeway of the tracks apparently, railcar had a light axle loading. Was repaired, resumed service and was withdrawn in June 1941.
