DescriptionMany prospectors are at present earning a livelihood by winning gold from the upper Matakitaki River district.. A camp at Burn Creek, about 40 miles from Murchison is reached only after arduous travel. Stores for the prospectors in the locality are taken 22 miles from Murchinson by motor-lorry, then 12 miles by pack-horse. Over the final six miles, men carried it themselves.
