520 FIRE BRIGADE CALLOUTS.

150 Km/hr. WINDS.

HOKITIKA VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE RECOGNISED.

Extreme weather conditions creating 150 Km/hr. winds caused wide spread damage throughout the West Coast in April 2014. Over 60 houses lost roofs and many buildings were destroyed in Greymouth. Huge areas of forest were blown down. Fire brigades responded to over 520 callouts in the Grey District and 45 million dollars of damage was sustained throughout the region.
