Brother Eugene Flaherty - His twin sister Margaret "Peg" was a member of the Sisters of Mercy in Hokitika. They are connected to the Wright family, whose members included Mother Mary Ignatia RSM, Sister Mary Baptist RSM, and Sister Mary Celestine RSM.

In the Press, 11 October 2003, there was an article entitled "Spirit of Mercy" - Sister Peg Flaherty speaking about arrival, on Hokitika wharf 15 October 1878, of the first Sisters of Mercy, and her religious profession.
