Arthur Gill snr was a very clever self taught maintenance man at Waiuta and when the mine closed he got into motor engineering with the then bustling engine reconditioning side of Greymouth Motors and then Tasman Engine Reconditioners in Albert Street I was fortunate enough to get to know him when I was a young apprentice and he would pop into the workshop after he had retired an absolute wealth of knowledge on the engines of his time Id like to think that some of it rubbed off on me
