DescriptionI thought this may be interesting to some West Coast families with Railway members in their whakapapa. I volunteer as an archivist for a small group the
National Railway Museum of New Zealand, in Christchurch. We recently received via Mr Steve Young a selection of colour slides and newspaper clippings from the estate of the late Charley Adler who was a career railway worker including at Greymouth.
This 1969 Greymouth Star newspaper clipping shows photos of the staff when it opened in June 1928 and a similar photo from more or less the same spot railway staff at Elmer Lane locomotive depot win February 9th 1969 during the change from Steam to the new Dj Diesels. The thing about this clipping is that every single person is named in the article for both photos. Many West Coast people with have father's, Uncles's and Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers, in these pictures. There are 53 people in the 1928 photo and about 63 workers in the 1969 photo. If you wish to know if your father/uncle or ancester is in the pictures If you give their name I will see if they are there.
