DescriptionThe postmistress, Mrs Elaine Chandler, post-marks the last letters before closing the door of the Arthur’s Pass Post Office for the final time yesterday. The closing had been met with “shock and disbelief” by local people, Mrs Chandler said. Tourists were really upset. A lot of sales had been made to tourists wishing to include the Arthur’s Pass post-mark in their collections, she said. The closest post offices still open are at Greymouth and Darfield. - February 1988Map^[1]
