Date Created1st October 2026CommentsAllan Archer: James Roxborough (jnr) was a Bicycle Road Racer of some note, hence the pic with the badge etc.

Amusingly, a few years later, after moving to Hokitika, he was fined in the local court for riding his Bicycle on the footpath ?

Ina Lineham: Most likely the son who took over the hotel from his dad, James. The hotel was erected in 1902 following a fire that destroyed the original Railway Hotel.

Ina Lineham: Very cool.

Ken Howat: My great-grandfather.

Allan Archer: Ken Howat, cool. James raced against my Great Grandfather in a Capleston to Reefton Bicycle road race in 1904, 35 competitors with 6 pounds for first place, gravel road days, without the beaut mountain bikes we have today.
