Anna Panther

Raewyn Louttit
Very sad indeed
Wendy Butcher
It's terrible, the old hospital and rehabilitation buildings in Hanmer Springs are the same, big old buildings all on prime real estate just left to rot. Doesn't make sense!
Deb Griffiths
shame
Sally Williams
Oh the parties in the staff room there when Kevin Lyes was Charge Nurse there were great
Ursula Tauwhare Tainui
very sad
Amy Bijou Stoop
kinder eerie but facinating.. gosh if this was in chch or anywhere Seaview would be bulldozed and redeveloped into some kind of luxury something orathers
Janet Jamieson
I thought it was going to be a holiday camp who owns it now
Tracey Ramsay
Such a waste.
Sally Williams
The whole hospital hill could be turned into a luxury lodge that would bring megabucks to Hoki and provide employment too
Fiona Mahony
I heard the new Hospital might be going up there. i believe The roads are Council property and are in appalling condition they should be maintained for all the residents paying top dollar for rentals up there.
Fiona Mahony
Would make a great site for a short movie.
Ree Clark
Some one has to have the money to be able to fix them.
Jennifer Gaskell
That is shocking.
Nina Townsend

If it wasn't for national stupidity it would still be the efficient hospital that it always was.
Shazz Cameron Hanrahan

Shazz Cameron Hanrahan
Thats so sad, Dad be turning over in his grave
Deborah Taylor
It is a terrible waste. There is too much of this happening in our 'throw away' world. Besides, there's all the history wrapped up in Seaview to let this happen.
Chaz Livermore
where is seaview and what was it
Raewyn Louttit
Seaview is in Hokitika it was the mental hospital along from Westland hospital
Clare McDonnell
sooo sad that they were bathed together like that and had no privacy ...
Chaz Livermore
why not restore it in to a hotel
Chaz Livermore
Are there anything ghosts
Simon Watkins
I went through some of these buildings in the 80s.. spooky place I remember the viewing windows in the little rooms
Steph JF
I worked there in the mid 80's
Julie Ann White
I worked there in the 70s
Lynne Scott Scott
A bit sad
David-Kat Jonathan-Bell
Is it open to public to enter now? As a teen (early 2000s) we went here to have a look around (generally just curious) & were moved on by an aggressive man. I've wondered what the history was of Seaview as it seems so hush hush..
Kyle Webster
David-Kat Jonathan-Bell Read 'Misery Hill' about Seaview
Doreen Wallis
Privately owned now
C May L'Huillier
I worked there in the early 50ies different place then
Arlene Hutcheon
My great uncle was a patient at Seaview for many years. He must have lived there for a good part of his life.
Leonie Jennings
Horrible place .
June Williams
I worked there during the school holidays in the 60s.
Chris Tones
Wheelchair races in the old building in the early 90's were fun.
Rebecca Pearson
I worked up there in the kitchen for the Wanrooys in the 80's and 90's on weekends and evenings when I was at high school. The vege garden was awesome out the back of the main kitchen. It was a lovely place to work, beautiful established trees lined the roads and the gardens were lovely. It's such a shame none of the villas were preserved, even just one or two, and made into a museum or similar
Colin McKinney
Looks like it
Raewyn Louttit
So sad
Reefer Finch
Was a shame to see the buildings an grounds get neglected , the staff at seaview did a marvelous job of keeping replace immaculate ,you could tell the grounds man had pride in his work
Dave Malone
It was bought by a man in ChCh,then some parts sold off to property developers, the workshops were emptied of all equipment,i was up there not long ago and it was a big mess compared to being there to see a friend that was living there a year before, there was enough there worth saving, not so much now....a lot of history in that place and and mind blowing going around all the rooms, including confinement areas..Nicki Killner
What a waste.
Kerry Molloy
in fact when Itrained and worked at Seaview in the 70s the general acceptance of patients and interactions with the Hokitika community at large was eye opening,a complete contrast todays insular underfunded over managed failing system of today. Ive many fond memories of the hill and the vast assortment of characters both staff and patients who guided me through my 48yr career as a psychiatric nurse.
Kaye McNabb
It was sold so no duty on private owners to maintain or restore. Why would they. Not much call for psych wards these days.
Kerrie Hunter
My auntie Dory was the Matron there for many years
Charlie Chandler
What a waste
Elizabeth Mehrtens
If places like this existed today we would not have so many in prisons where they forget the help of trained staff to rehabilitate to go back into the world that exists today now Pact are building similar facilities to cater for more clients in a similar way to the old Panamu and Sefton but with out the training that the staff had at Seaview sad but the world did say that this is what would happen in 30 odd yrs
Alan Mitchell
West coast Hospital Board at the time just let the whole Hospital run down so they could build a new psychiatric and drug rehabilitation unit in Greymouth.
Hamish Campbell
Shocker all right and could have been used for people to live in Same as Greymouth a great hospital .. ok designed foe extra story that roof needed up grade windows leaking fit better ones was designed to stop spread of nasty virus or such extremely earthquake proof .. Was designed by top special in such structures. Te Knackas the new dog bx is a milti million dollar rip off Old one especially built entrance re winds..Now spending a heap more for mental H wards. But no real health servies as old hospital hadRip off is putting it mildly
Helen Meredith
My aunt worked there pat kelly
Jack Tehan
The heating system on that ceiling was only installed in the early 70s with two new boiler houses. Everything was left to absolutely fall to pieces
Ray Breeze
So right Elizabeth I know a fellow probably been to prison at least 30 to 40 times probably there now he should have been in a mental hospital a ward like the old Temarie villa one day this fellow is going to do something really bad the police I believe do a very good job picking him up but the system keeps releasing him back into the community am I right or wrong
Beryl Maultby
Seaview was quite a place in the old days ..
Peter S Singer
Worked there
y
Peter Mitchell
Helped pull so e of the villas down. Sadly they were past their prime, but they should have been replaced
Suzanne Theyers
A very sad place, my late Grandfather was an alcoholic and lived in Kiwi for quite a few years. I remember as a very young girl going to see him in there. In my opinion they should of built a new facility for people in Hokitika. The mental health unit in Greymouth is awful. It's so run down.
Steph JF
I worked there in the mid 80's
Lyn Whittle
A horrible place, experimented with drugs on my mum, ruined her life.
Wendy Perkins
My mother Shirley was a nurse aide there. She loved nursing.
Janaka Mary Bartlett
