Bought my first ½ g's of beer to take away from that pub when still at school when a few of us from Hoki were heading south white baiting. Later on when living at Hari Hari and working in the bush and playing rugby for the Hari Hari senior reserves it became a common stop over when commuting north or south.

Remember visiting (approx 1977) and the beer cooling system was looping a coil of the hose in a salted water cut down barrel. There is always something about coast ingenuity!
