BREACHES OF THE LICENSING ACT.October,1903.
(Per United Press Association.) HOKITIKA, October 24. John Fox, licensee 'of the Greyhound Hotel, Arahura, was fined £2 and costs for selling liquor after hours to travellers who had not completed their journey.

On the 16th July, at his residence, Greyhound Hotel, Arahura. Patrick Quinn, aged 57 years, native of Carick-on-Suir, county Tipperrary, Ireland. R.I.P. Deeply regretted.

Elizabeth Mehrtens - Done a few hrs behind that bar , one night I arrived home with a piglet no idea how much work a piglet need to look after my father in law said no way but as usual a local got whiff of what I had purchased and was waiting for a phone call good old Martin Muir to the rescuer, Durham Havill, was the auctioneer all of them had it under control little did I no, Great times held and maturity gained from working along side these incredible wise friends.
Margaret Standen - Elizabeth Mehrtens, oh Lizzy that was the funniest night ever. If I remember it was a fundraiser for something.

Rosemary Hutchison - Yep burnt down on the 12th June 1996, I left for Australia that day and dad rang me that night to say it burnt down, sad had a lot of good nights out there.

Di Henderson - Richie Gibbens was a 7oz DB with a head on it. Look out if there was no head ... Great place to work. Always a laugh when Gibbens, Durham Havill, Frank Bradley etc got into debates about the trees and the birds lol.

Boss Hogg (Gordon Webster) was a good publican, bought his D series Ford along with the digger on the back of the ex army truck when he bought the pub, he put in a few cattle races.
I knew Gordon when he was contacting outa Rolleston way.
I remember one night some local at the Greyhound came in ordered a beer and placed a ten dollar note on the bar (ten bucks was a lot of money back then) Gordon have home| his beer and asked where his change was to which Boss Hogg replied, you're coming back aren't you? So he more or less paid for his tab in advance lol

Best pubs have always been West Coast pubs. We managed the Whataroa and my cousin and her husband, Zelda and Johnny Martin, had the Railway Hotel in Greymouth and The Pioneer in Hokitika and another one as well
