My grandfather was Frank Groufsky from Hokitika but his wife was Sarah Jack, they had 7 children that grew to adulthood. There was 2 large families of Groufsky's in Hokitika as 2 brothers married 2 sisters. This was in late 1890 - early 1900.

so would of being in 15 platoon with my great Uncle Ken Bannister . its not well known but at least some Maori soldiers from the Coast served originally in the 20th battalion then shifted to the 28th when the 20th(Canterbury which included the West Coast as 15 platoon) changed to an armoured Unit after the battle of Ruweisat ridge. members of the 20th were given the option of staying or moving to other infantry units. their platoon commander in early stages of the war was one Charles Upham VC & Bar
