What was announced as being the last steam train to leave Greymouth left a cinder in my as per normal when I was around a steam train on Christmas /New Year 1968/69

With our Dad's job being in the Goods office of NZR, to "farewell the Steam trains ", there was a picnic day train trip for Railway families and I remember as a family, beforehand, helping make up bags of lollies for all the kids. I can't quite remember whether the trip was to Otira or to Ross!
