Reid Falls is basically that man-modified waterfall you drive under as you make your way to or from Arthur's Pass via the Otira Viaduct. There is no safe pullout near the falls, but you can drive to a car park with a decent lookout of the falls and the rock canopies that shelter the roads from rockslides and the waterfall.
This is just one example of the amount of engineering necessary to make vehicular travel through Arthur's Pass less of a nightmare. With the falls being the cause of many rockfalls and washouts, the chute shelters SH73 from both rocks and the falls itself.Map^[1]ContributorVic Ollerenshaw
