That would be annoying, boat's and horses scaring the whitebait but I guess in those days they were so plentiful nothing would have stopped them running. Great to see the image thankyou.

David Hopgood yes our dad also told us the stories. But our mum trained us kids well on the bank. No splashing no throwing stones but we could tell the odd wee lie,that there was no bait about even though we may have flour sack full tucked up the bank under the grass. Our mum was the most honest lovely lady one could meet but rules were different down on the banks of the buller. Loveliest time I ever had with her.
