A section of the horse tram (service tram) this was operational in 1909 and went all the way up to the Liverpool No 1 mine.
2.
Old coal stove; one of four I came across. This one was near an area where there were drill cores and evidence of blacksmithing.
3.
Fire bricks, larger diameter drill cores etc. Even a fragment of a German porcelain doll.
4.
What is it. Someone suggested a sausage stuffing machine? Was not far from an old sawmill site and series of former habitation sites.
5.
This item was at one of the private? coalmines downstream of the Back Shunt at Lower Rewanui. Moe Bowes likely knows the details.
6.
Where drums, pipes and coal tubs were discarded at the end of their lives. There must have been a hundred or so coal tubs spotted plus scores of trolley wheel sets minus the bin part.Map^[1]ContributorGlenn Johnston

OBriens pulled there coal up into the back shunt from opposite the 2nd rail tunnel from 1927 in 1959 when they abandoned the mine with a great production of 213,821 ton. Guy Anderson drove the winch in the back shunt. They then opened another mine at the end of the back shunt in 1960 it went for around half a yr and was abandoned after putting out 727 ton.

Thanks, I'd thought that might be an O'Brien and Party mine where the machinery was but just called it a Private mine? to be on the safe side. Lots of stuff there.

John Gardner were sausage machine manufacturers in Birmingham since 1890.

Yes, Cyril H. was correct when he said it was a sausage machine. I found a picture of a very similar Gardner & Son machine on line in a 1902 catalogue.
