DescriptionI have more recent photos from the Top Brake and No 1 Liverpool coal mine area. This area has a wealth of relics. After cutting some scrub I've photographed the two boilers which have been mentioned on here in the past. I hunted in the scrubby partially slipped terrain across Taruru Creek from Top Brake for the mine adits and came across two, one of which was collapsed.

Photo 2: A remaining metal power pole minus cross arm near the confluence of Taruru and Parawai Creeks is the only reminder in the photo that this was once a thriving mining area.

Are there any guided walks around these old mine sites?
Maybe there's some tourism

Is there anything left of the stables ?

Stephen Harris If you mean at Top Brake and the No 1 mine I'm not sure but I haven't seen any stables there. I've only poked around that area twice and may have missed them? I've looked down on structures in among gorse and native scrub that I haven't investigated yet. I have walked the horse track to the mine from Top Brake as far as the missing bridge and both the service tram and rope road apart from the tunnels & missing bridges have been walked to Top Brake.

When I last visited they were half full of mud from a slip however there were still some documents etc Intact inside .The Name J O’Connell was one I recall .

Glenn it would be easier to come down from Strongman if you could get access permission a track was cut a few years ago over the back from memory it drops right into the old boiler house up there

Stephen Roberts I've seen what I presume is a drillers track that comes off a road east of the Strongman opencast but I've been told the Strongman leaseholder doesn't allow private vehicle access. That is their prerogitive. I'm pleased the miners cleaned up the Rewanui Incline Road and allow foot and bike access that way.
