DescriptionThe photos are the system and fan house at Middle Brake.2024.
The ventilation serviced the huge workings and coal road ways beyond the 1120 metre stone drive extending to the 9 metre thick Morgan coal seam and just 500 metres south of the original Siberia, Liverpool No.1 coalmine. I remember taking an excursion train from Greymouth up to the mine many years ago, but not really sure when. Likely the late 60s or early 70s, if anyone recalls more precisely.

The coast was really buzzing when the mines were going. The coal trains along Mawhera quay and I dont think we had people on the doll then. Plenty of work for everyone

Can just imagine the power that fan had.We had one at the mine and trying to pull one of the airlock doors open,was a mammoth task,no show if other was ajar. The noise was something to behold,oh and the smell of oranges that some miner had for crib sure went a long way.lol
